Short-term geomorphological evolution of the Poggio Baldi landslide upper scarp via 3D change detection

Abstract On 19 March 2010, a 4 million m 3 landslide occurred at Poggio Baldi, small village in the Santa Sofia municipality, central Apennines (Forlì-Cesena, Italy). The caused severe damages to some homes and obstructed both SS310 national road Bidente river. Baldi arose “Marnoso-Arenacea Romagnola” formation composed of pelitic-arenaceous turbiditic sequence. was classified as rotational landslide, evolving into partially confined flow-like causing reactivation deposit previous that took place 1914. This paper reports study phenomena currently occurring on 100-m high main scarp this complex. aim assess ground changes upper from 2015 2018 infer preliminary evolutionary model capable supporting short-term scenarios. For purpose, multi-station terrestrial laser scanner surveys were performed 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018. Additionally, an unmanned aerial vehicle three-dimensional photogrammetric survey carried out 2016. Analyses digital models made it possible carry several exhaustive multi-temporal investigations derive detailed change detection scheme for it. results showed active geomorphological evolution rock area due frequent rockfalls topples (of order few ), with significant local volume (a thousand /year) potential implications long-term entire slope.
